Rameau - Les fêtes de Polymnie Ouverture for 8-part Brass Ensemble and TimpaniThis opera ballet was first performed in 1745 in Paris to celebrate a victory at the Battle of Fontenoy. Musicologists mostly agree that the Ouverture is the highlight of the work. The music starts with a slow introduction, with the balance of the work highlighted with brilliant fanfares and scales, punctuated by the Timpani. Justin Bland has brilliantly arranged the music for an 8 part Brass Ensemble with Timpani of the following instrumentation
